Tips for Stationery Consultation

Yay! You are getting married! You’ve decided on a date, booked the venue, your next step is to invite your guests to your big day,

Remember that most designers have a specific design style, so before you set-up a meeting with just any wedding stationer, first determine what your requirements are.
Take into consideration your wedding style and theme (antique, formal, rustic, vintage, DIY, classic, playful etc.), determine what the colours are you would like to incorporate in your wedding, will your wedding be an informal get together, a classic formal day or black tie event. Also take into consideration, your venues’ look and feel. Determine how many invites you need, most stationers prices are quantity sensitive. If you would like to discuss and get a quote on the rest of the stationery of your wedding day, think about what your tables will look like, how will your centre piece look? You need to think of this as the design of the stationery will also influence the cost. Too much to think about? First concentrate on your invites; you are more than likely to change your mind closer to the time anyway.

Choose a designer that will meet your requirements and set up a meeting. Take the following along to your meeting:

  • Most brides have some idea of what they like, try and find images of the style you like, on the web or magazines.
  • If you have a specific colour you are using for your runners or bridesmaid dresses etc, take a swatch of the fabric along. Remember that it is difficult to print exactly the same colours, unless you are will to spend a fortune and a lot of time on lithographic printing.
  • Your basic wording: Your designer can guide you on this, but you’ll need to decide whether you would like to incorporate your parents’ names in the invite or not.
  • How many information you would like to include on the invitation. Will you be providing a map, accommodation suggestions, gift registry, asking for a gift of money instead etc.
  • When you need the invitations by.  Plan well in advance; take into consideration the time of the wedding, place of the wedding, do people need to make travel arrangements? Keep in mind that your designer needs a certain time frame to complete your order. Best advice: Rather be safe than sorry.

Not sure what you want? Your designer has a lot of invitation samples and will guide you in finding something that you like.

Be true to yourself; decide on a style that reflects both you and your fiancé. Don’t try to put on a show! It’s a special event to be shared in your hearts forever!
